Thundergrid at EROAD Fleet Day: A Day of Innovation and Networking

Vibrant crowd from various backgrounds

This year’s ERoad Fleet Day on the 7th August in Hamilton was bigger and brighter as ever. The organisers had shifted the event to Mystery Creek to cater for the interested crowds. 1000 sold tickets and around 50 exhibitors from various backgrounds made the ERoad Fleet Day a huge success. Thundergrid could show its knowledge and solutions in EV charging on the stand and on the panel talk with other experts.

Driving Towards Sustainability

Thundergrid’s CEO, Jonny Parker, made a significant impact during the afternoon Sustainability Panel discussion, moderated by sports presenter icon Stephen McIvor. The discussion, which focused on separating fact from fiction, saw Jonny elaborate on our dynamic load management systems. “EVs shouldn’t burden our national grid; rather, they represent a potential solution for the future. EVs are essentially mobile batteries,” Jonny emphasized. The panel also explored the expanding range of EVs, the issue of range anxiety among New Zealanders, and the promising advancements in EV battery reuse and material recycling, which can reach up to 97%.

Innovations in Heavy Transport

The presence of electric trucks, ambulances, police cars, and other heavy transport at this year’s ERoad Fleet Day was particularly exciting. “It’s a huge step to see such a diverse range of electric heavy transport vehicles,” Jonny Parker noted enthusiastically. This mirrors the growing interest Thundergrid has observed in heavy transport charging solutions. As major New Zealand corporations consider transitioning parts of their fleets to EVs, Thundergrid's Business Development Manager, Cam Denne, stresses the importance of careful planning. “While purchasing an EV might be straightforward, it’s crucial to analyse fleet data, infrastructure needs, and charging requirements in advance.” Our solutions for fleet and business charging continue to attract interest, with clients appreciating not just our quality products, but our comprehensive approach, expertise, and ongoing support.

Network and Learning Opportunities

The ERoad Fleet Day was also an excellent opportunity for networking, insight exchange, and education. Former Prime Minister Rt Hon John Key shared his perspectives on New Zealand’s economy and financial market developments. For Thundergrid, it was invaluable to engage with customers about their shift to EVs. Common queries included why public chargers often provide faster charging than home units and the significant value and safety benefits of installing smart chargers. Cameron Denne and Jonny Parker offered insights into existing solutions and emerging technologies and engaged in stimulating discussions with other exhibitors focused on fast-charging innovations.

The event concluded on a high note with a prize draw, leaving exhibitors and visitors alike with memorable experiences and valuable connections.
