Where charging meets social consciousness.

We were born from wanting to remove barriers to a collective goal.  

Co-founders of Thundergrid, Jonny Parker and Jonathan Zukerman, teamed up in 2017 for a reason. Jonny was an expert in low-carbon solutions, Jonathan an expert in the country’s power grid. Together they realised that the vision of transitioning to electric transport could become problematic without considering the collective impact on the power system.

What’s at stake?

If people were to buy EVs and just plug in, it would cause more harm than good to our environment and society. Charging too many EVs at the same time will result in homes, buildings and the power lines that connect them being overloaded. To resolve this, we would need to increase capacity, build more power lines and upgrade infrastructure, resulting in everyone paying more for energy.  

What’s the solution?

We need to use ‘smart’ EV chargers that automatically vary their charging speed to work with what power is available in a home, building or on national power grid. So, no matter how many electric vehicles are charging, we can stay within our power supply and make the most of renewable energy. These charging solutions need to be tailored, which is where our team of specialists come in.
