Thundergrid was invited by Foodstuffs to experience the first Windrose electric truck in New Zealand.

The new Windrose Truck is a game-changer, boasting an impressive range of 670 kilometers on a single charge while hauling a massive 49 tonnes. Thundergrid’s Cameron Denne had the privilege of being invited to see and share a test drive with the first Windrose Technology Truck in New Zealand—a truly exciting experience!

The invitation came from Andrew Reynolds, Sustainability and Green Energy Advocate and Technical Facilities Manager at Foodstuffs North Island Limited, providing Thundergrid | A Landis+Gyr Company with an exclusive opportunity to witness the future of heavy-duty electric trucks at Foodstuffs’ Auckland site.
“It’s incredible to see the Windrose trucks from Etrucks® New Zealand up close,” said Cameron Denne, clearly impressed. Despite the truck’s large size, Cam found the middle steering wheel design made it feel more compact during the test drive. “This fully electric truck is a real game changer, capable of hauling significant loads while maintaining excellent range,” he added.

Massive truck – minimal impact

Jonathan Parker, CEO of Thundergrid, highlighted the potential impact on the Central North Island freight sector: “This truck could drastically reduce fuel costs and emissions. We’re excited to support the charging infrastructure that powers trucks like this one and others that are on the horizon.”
