What’s the role? 

We are very excited to welcome our first Business Development Manager to kick start our presence in Melbourne. This role is a full-time and permanent position based in Laverton North, Melbourne.

Thundergrid are based in New Zealand and our team is growing rapidly. We are expanding into VIC and would love to hear from you if you have proven sales/business development experience in a similar field.

The Business Development Manager is a critical position in a key market of this rapidly growing industry. The major focus for this role is to prospect for new customers, manage existing, all with the aim of making a significant contribution to current and future sales and revenue targets. This involves managing the market portfolio offering, roadmaps, end to end sales cycle, including strategic planning, development and execution. The role is instrumental in identifying and developing business growth through leveraging the product, services and solutions capability and working with industry partners.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for providing a wide range and variety of consulting and solution and product services. This includes everything from business development, following up leads and scoping work; drafting recommendations and implementation plans; and regular engagement with existing customers, business partners and other key stakeholders.

You will work with private businesses and government agencies to write business proposals and present these to potential customers, including negotiating and drafting new, and monitoring existing contracts. In addition, you will also need to provide a level of specialist advice on the products and services we are offering

This position is responsible for setting and monitoring sales targets to drive business growth and ensure market competitiveness. The role involves developing and deploying comprehensive account plans, accurately forecasting product requirements for both short- and long-term periods, and identifying growth opportunities among existing and potential customers. You will lead strategic pursuits, manage customer contracts, and spearhead tender responses and submissions. Additionally, you will negotiate customer contracts and closing agreements to achieve sales targets.

Your focus

You will focus on fostering strong, long-term relationships with customers by effectively resolving issues, handling complaints, and gaining customer feedback to enhance engagement. Leadership is a key aspect of this position, as it involves identifying gaps in the current product or solution portfolio, and feeding into the development of future solutions. This position is integral to Thundergrid and Landis+Gyr’s success, requiring strategic thinking, and customer focus.

Responsibilities:

Sales / Business Development

  • Manage and participates in the compilation of forecasts for sales.
  • Follow up with customers on proposals and quotes and leads then implement/agree follow up actions.
  • Work with key customers to provide insights and ascertain current satisfaction levels and future opportunities including charger subscription services to ensure the customer has the necessary ongoing support.
  • Assist in creating and refining standard operations procedures and role refinements.
  • Liaise with the Thundergrid help desk to raise/resolve customer queries and concerns as they are raised.
  • Maintain customer information including sales history, quote status and sales projections on a CRM.
  • Create long lasting partnerships in the relevant sectors such as Automotive property energy infrastructure.
  • Assist with ad hoc customer service and sales enquiries.
  • Play a role in pricing strategies for the market segments.
  • Share industry knowledge including understanding of trends locally and internationally.
  • Seek out business development opportunities.

Relationship Building / Partner Management:

  • Represents Thundergrid with industry stakeholders across Australia, including government bodies and industry associations and at industry conferences and exhibitions.
  • Drives customer relationship management taking responsibility for creating excellent executive level customer relationships across Australia.
  • Leads selected major strategic sales opportunities in Australia (and cross Tasman if required), conducting relevant bid reviews with Thundergrid’s management team.
  • Develops relevant partner and supplier relations to ensure successful business execution, coordinating activities with Thundergrid’s management team as appropriate.
  • Researching, selecting and meeting with electrical contractors (including helping to obtain insurance certificates and electrical license copies from contractors).
  • Presenting Thundergrid technology and services to customers, partners and at industry events.
  • Educating partners on new technology and process of installation
  • Establishing Service Level Agreements with electrical contractors
  • Assisting with the development and execution of partner and industry training events and workshops as required
  • Promoting Thundergrid services and products to partners to re-sell

  • Maintain awareness of identified and potential health and safety, quality and environmental aspects within the workplace and their impact, including the reporting of any accidents/incidents/near misses or hazards.
  • Act responsibly to meet the objectives/requirements at the appropriate level as described in the Health, Safety and Integrated Management Systems.

Key Metrics

  • Performance in this role is as deemed relevant for any period and may include annual sales financial objectives and forecast accuracy is also a key measure of success for this role.

What we are looking for:

You will bring a minimum of 5 years’ extensive sales experience, ideally in the energy, motor trade or property sector. You will also have experience in growing and strengthening relationships at all levels, have strong presentation skills and be able to report back in both writing and analytics.

You will also bring a proven track record in delivering results in a B2B environment and be a confident communicator and have the ability to work autonomously and in a team.

In addition, you will be familiar with CRM systems (we use Hubspot) and you will be required to have a clean Australian driving license, so you can attend meetings with customers on site.
